William Krekler developed the „Command Performance” peony in the United States in 1964. The name “Command Performance” was inspired by the high-performance standards demanded by the United States Army, which was headquartered near Krekler’s Missouri peony farm.
Krekler wanted to develop a new peony variety with large, vibrant blooms, sturdy stems, and a long flowering period. He accomplished this by crossing two distinct peony varieties, Karl Rosenfield and Red Charm.
Command Performance, the resulting peony, quickly became popular among gardeners and peony enthusiasts due to its showy flowers and hardiness. It is still widely grown in gardens and is one of the most popular peony varieties in the United States today.

Here are some care recommendations for a peony bouquet: When you receive the peonies bouquet, carefully remove it from its packaging. Under running water, cut the flower stems diagonally at a 45-degree angle with clean and sharp scissors. This will prevent air bubbles from forming in the stems, which can obstruct water uptake. To prevent bacterial growth in the vase, remove any leaves or foliage that are below the water line. Choose a vase that is clean and large enough to hold the peonies. Fill it with clean, fresh water.
